Friday Favorites #3/ Recap!

Happy Fri-yay ya’ll!!

I’m sort of combining Friday Faves and our recap into one this week!

Okay- so basically since I returned from LA  I have been sick. Not normal sick- like the wind knocked out of my sails sick. (No worries- recovering slowly). I had a viral infection and was out for the count Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. Thursday I woke up in the middle of the night, and when I stood up to go to the bathroom, I suddenly had the most excruciating ear pain of my life. I told DJ I have never been through childbirth, but I would bet it was comparable. Turns out my eardrum was on it’s way to being ruptured and was tearing on the edges (Sorry, TMI?). I’m a nurse, guys, I don’t know the “normal” bounds of conversation sometimes! …The things I and my nursing friends would talk about at dinner…. Oy vey! Anyway after 1 ER, 1 Urgent Care, and 3 different pharmacies I was finally set up with the meds needed to combat the bad boy. I still don’t have my hearing back in the infected ear, but I just finished my last day of antibiotic drops, so it should be back once the drops start to drain. Fingers crossed!

But this leads me to my first Fri-yay fave (these aren’t in order of importance, more just chronological!):

  1. Puns. Because ya’ll know I love puns, and when you are sick you can make ALL the puns and no one calls you out on it. Exhibit A:

2. Sushi. All the sushi. & Grubhub. When I’m sick (well anything but GI sick), I crave sushi. Wait…. I always crave sushi. But I especially crave it when I’m sick. Grubhub came in the clutch last week with the magic sushi delivered to our door. Sushi, sushi, sushiiiiiii. (Still not over it). There were seriously a couple days where I could barely get off the couch, so grubhub with the sushi saved my life! My go-to is a rainbow roll, spicy tuna, or a eel roll of some type! What’s your favorite sushi? Wasabi? Ginger? I douse my soy with the wasabi and always follow a bite with some ginger!

We also had a delicious dinner at Dj’s family’s house on Wednesday! Love that family time.

3. DJ’s Baptism!!! DJ was baptized Sunday! It was such a special event. I was not about to miss it for the world. I drug myself off the couch to make it in between services and was able to see my love make a public declaration of his faith. I felt so honored to know him during this HUGE event in his life. He is truly one of my role models, and I couldn’t be more proud of my hubs ❤ His grandma was able to make it too since she was in town all the way from Ohio which was a blessing!!!

img_8880img_8881img_8883img_8882

4. Dreyer’s Limited Edition Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough!!!! AHHHHH! This stuff is the bombbbb. I have an ice cream cone almost every night (not exaggerating). I’m a big believer of at least one sweet treat a day. I’ve been on a dreyer’s light mint chocolate chip ice cream kick (with cashews mixed in), but man, this stuff is my new crave. When I showed DJ he laughed because he said it was all my favorite things in one ice cream.

img_8866

5. John Freida Full Repair. I don’t know what it is about this stuff, but it’s pure magic. All the John Freida products are my ride or die when I have blonde highlights. In the winter and change in seasons my hair gets some severe breakage. This stuff helps tremendously and keeps the brightness of the blonde without any brassiness. I can’t recommend this enough!

img_8867

6. Another BIG UPDATE!!!! I finally have permission to announce that DJ has a new employer! He finished up his internship with the church and is now employed by the SJ Giants! Wooohoooo! I know he will do a tremendous job and I am incredibly proud of him for pursuing his dreams. Plus I got a cute baseball cap to wear out of it 😉

img_8884

7. Reading. YES!!! I finally have time to go through the HP series. For like, the first time in my whole life. I know I’m ten years late to that game (I’m also reading Cutting for Stone which is incredible). But as many of you know, one bucket list dream is to read the series then go to Harry Potter World. I should be embarrassed to admit this, but I’m not? One of my favorite nights this week was when DJ and I just read our individual books, DJ reading The Power of Habit (which he says is super great), and me reading HP while sipping on red wine in the evening. Perfection.

img_8886

8. Lysol Multi-purpose cleaner. It’s laboriously difficult to find an all purpose cleaner that is powerful but not super strong on the chemicals. This stuff actually smells terrific, and it works incredibly well.

img_8865

9. Protes chips. Ahhh, I could make a post alone about how much I love these chips. I believe protein packed snacks are the best types of snacks! Protes have 120 calories per 1 oz, 15 g of protein, 7g of carbs, and 1g sugar. I say that’s a pretty well macro balanced chip to munch on!!! I’ve been enjoying these with hummus everyday. (If you have had Quest chips- these blow them out of the water. I like Quest, but these are in a different league).

img_8872

10. Bitmojis. JJ inspired me to make a bitmoji, and I am obsessed. (You may have figured that out if you follow me on snapchat). Do you all have a bitmoji?! I don’t know why it took me so long to pull the trigger on making one! Too fun!

  1. I think that we would be best friends if you lived closer. 😉 Loved everything about this blog post! (I’m kind of a new reader, but I’ve loved every blog I’ve read so far).
    Have a wonderful weekend!!! 🙂

  2. My brother is a PA and we talk vomit, blood, and broken bones at Thanksgiving all. The. Time. 🙂 It grosses my mom out. Also, every time I have gotten pregnant, we talk in depth medically. Haha! Also, I’ve had my eardrums rupture twice. Once was lat year while I was pregnant. All that to say, I have felt your pain. Hope you feel and hear better soon!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hahahha so glad you get the casual “medical chat”. I have to stop myself so many times mid conversation when I realize the person on the receiving end may not want to hear about said event to that explicit extent! And ah, I’m so sorry it’s ruptured TWICE! The pain is just the worst part. I just hope it starts to drain soon. I’m worried the fluid is permanently stuck in there! But I just finished my antibiotic ear drops so we will see if it starts to!

    1. Awwww of course!! I’m so glad I could share DJ’s baptism!!! I was able to Facetime Laura and Gordie in on it live time so that was great that it worked out! #technologyforthewin . Also – hahhahaha- love that. Keep the jokes coming!!!! 😉

  3. Heyyy!!!

First, congratulations to DJ on his baptism!!!! SUPER pumped for him to be making those faith steps and declaring it to the world! That’s what’s up!! Also congrats on his new job!! Baseball woooo!!!

Your ear rupture sounded incredibly painful and the worst. Hope you’re doing alright! Just…don’t let it bleed out or…something. Gross.

Sushi is the best and those Protes chips sound awesome. Gotta love those healthier chips!

Hope you are recovering well! Have a great weekend!!!

    1. Hey Michael!!!!! How are you? I will pass that onto DJ! Thanks for sharing in the excitement with us! And he has wanted to get into sports (particularly baseball) for the longest time and it’s coming to fruition! With the ear —- too late on it bleeding— hahah. Sorry TMI again! UGH! But it’s much better, I just want to get the darn hearing back. Thank you for the well wishes!

And have you had Protes or Quest?! SO GOOD!

Have such a great weekend!!! I can’t wait to catch up on your blog soon!

  4. Sending you all the get-well vibes! You’re definitely tough and will kick all of this to the curb soon. It’s still no fun, though! I love this round-up. The ice cream sounds incredible! I’ve been enjoying Halo Top but may need to get my paws on this flavor. Congrats to your husband on his baptism! I think it’s adorable that you all have evenings when you each read – I love our casual evenings. Life certainly doesn’t have to be all about going out. 🙂 Enjoy your Friday!

    1. Aww thank you, Kori!!!! It’s definitely on the up swing, I just want to hear again, haha. And YESSS I LOVE Halo Top! I actually was going to include them in my Friday Faves until I found this little gem. I also like Enlightened ice cream- sea salt caramel- me oh my- so good! Have you had that? What’s your favorite HT flavor?! And I will pass on the congrats to DJ!!! With reading– we joke that we are so old with our reading nights, but truly so relaxing! Enjoy your weekend too 🙂 Can’t wait to read about it! XO

      1. I’ve never had Enlightened Ice Cream! Another one I need to try. I’ve only had HT Lemon and PB Cup, but so far, both are delicious! I love any and all things lemon, so that’s been my fav! We joke about being “old” too, but I so love this time in my life, and it sounds like you do too. ❤ You enjoy your weekend too, and I hope all your hearing returns soon!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Yes! Oh my goodness love the lemon- I haven’t had PB yet, but it sounds so yum! Aww- I love that you guys relate on that 🙂 And thank you for the well wishes- I hope your weekend is off to a great start!

      1. Just wanted to leave you a message totally unrelated to the above! I’m really missing my Christian friends in ca right now and It’s been hard here not having any people who’s beliefs align with mine. It’s refreshing to have friends like you to talk to while I’m here! 😄

      2. Awww! This is the sweetest thing ❤ I don't know how it got so buried in my comments- so I'm sorry I'm just responding now! But I'm thankful to know you here too. It's hard when it doesn't feel like you have a strong Christian community. I know it will happen for you, but if you ever need to chat you always know how to reach me! Life has been so nuts but I look forward to sitting down and catching up on your amazing blog tonight. I send big hugs. ❤

  5. Oh Mack, sorry to hear about you being sick and your ear…OWWW. I’m with you though. I’ve been so sick too (no ruptured eardrum though- thanks goodness…I’m not ready to endure pregnancy pain just yet) But I was sick with that awful cold a few weeks ago and was better for like a 1.5 weeks and now I’m sick again…what the heck! Although I think right now it’s just early spring allergies but it’s definitely kicking my butt.
But on a nicer note- YAY for DJ!!! That really is an amazing thing to witness and I’m so proud of him too!!! Also give him a been congrats to his new job!!! That’s so exciting. What’s he doing for the SJ Giants? I think Andrew would be a tad jelly because he’s just such a sports fanatic! Originally went to school for Sports Management but then ended up in Finances somehow lol
Girl I see you with that brown rice on your sushi!!! 😉 Grubhub is an amazing thing. I love when they send me like 20% off coupons because I use them so much. It’s always either grub hub or yelp! Also I lovee that you love bitmojis too now! I swear I use them at any time possible lol Did DJ make one yet?
Alright now, I hope you get better ASAP. Have a good weeekend love!! ❤

    1. Awww thanks for your well wishes! You and I both have definitely had a rough go of it this winter!!!! It’s been a bad season of sickness all over I think!

And I will pass that onto Deej 🙂 That’s so sweet of you!!! And he is working in their marketing department! He worked for a minor league team one summer in Ohio, and loved it so he is just in his element. It makes me so happy to see him doing what he loves. The limbo after law school and all that was sorta hard, but everything always works out doesn’t it?! And I feel like that happens so often with majors in college and then actual career paths not aligning— it probably happens more often than not actually!!!!

AND BROWN RICE IS BOMB! SO good! I love it so much on sushi- it’s heartier and healthier!

I stillll need to get DJ to make one. I’ll make it a new goal for the weekend hahah. Hope yours and Andrew’s is off to a beautiful start! xoxoxoxo

  8. I hope your ear is drumming peacefully again Mackenzie, sorry but it don’t beat Pregnancy pain, I have had both much more than once and yes their both bad but cause different body sensations, one your head feels like its exploding and the other the rest of your body, one you get a clean ear the other you get dirty nappies.

Wonderful news about your Hubby, some Scriptural advice for him below and my warm wishes too, God bless you both greatly as you seek Him with all your hearts.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee Except a Man be Born of water and of The Spirit he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is Born of the Spirit is Spirit.

Mark 1:8 8 I indeed have Baptized you with water but He shall Baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

Luke 11:13…….how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?

Jeremiah 29:12-13 Then shall ye call upon me and ye shall go and pray unto me and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall Seek me and find me when ye shall Search for me with all your Heart.

Proverbs 8:17 I Love them that Love me and those that Seek me early shall find me.

    Christian Love Always – Anne.

Oh my gosh I want sushi! My favorite is avocado and cucumber. But there is a restaurant back home that has this roll (that actually has fish in it) called the Spicey Lover Roll. So yummy has spicy mayo, king crab, salmon, avocado, cream cheese, and about a gazillion other things sooo good!
Huge huge HUGE congrats to DJ and you! That is amazing! AND Congrats to him on his new job! So many exciting things happening for you guys I am so happy for you! ❤
Oh my gosh uhhhh gurlllll we have the same dream! My brother went to Harry Potter (and he tortured me for my obsession as a kid…though in his defense it was for work) and I was sooo jealous. I did get a super cute mug, but I want to go soon badly! IT WILL HAPPEN! I have read the books multiple times….like in the hundreds. :O But I do NOT have an obsession! I swear!
I love that cleaner! It really is the best!
Yasss!!! Welcome to the Bitmoji world! I am obsessed with it! We also might be earring the same outfit lol. I hope you have an amazing weekend sweets! ❤

Congrats to DJ on getting baptized and landing a new job! You must be so proud! I pray that both you and him will have your hearts open to the infinite love and joy of the Spirit alive in your life. And ugh…that avocado eel sushi! Looks so good! 17. Oh girl, I hope your ear heals quickly now that you have good meds! Feeling knocked out sick like that is awful! Though I’m with you on loving sushi and craving it when not feeling well! In fact, weirdly enough sushi has been one of the few things that I have consistently been able to eat all throughout this pregnancy no matter how sick I’ve felt (granted, I’m not eating the raw stuff right now, but still!).

Congrats to DJ on his baptism and the new job! WOW! So much to celebrate! How awesome!

I don't feel so strange about craving that then hahha 🙂 Sushi (and coffee) are the two things I'm dreading giving up when I'm pregnant one day— yes, already have thought about that. Hahaha. But I didn't think about how I could still eat just vegetarian rolls without the raw fish to get my fix! Woohoo! I will pass on the sweet words to DJ:) Thanks so much! I hope you had a beautiful week!

  19. I love this new series of yours! : )

Sorry to hear about your ear infection! Despite that, you’re still able to radiate positivity from your post. I love that about you.

I am a big sushi fan and could not pass up the chance to talk about it. Ha! 😀 I used to DUNK my sushi in a soy sauce + wasabi mixture, but didn’t enjoy being extremely parched for the rest of the day, so I started to eat my sushi as is. And I LOVED it. I was so much more able to really enjoy the different flavours and didn’t miss the soy sauce at all! But I kept bumping into sources that said the wasabi helps kill off bacteria in the raw fish, so…… I’ve started mixing wasabi into water. It’s great, but I only do it when I’m not in plain view because no one wants to see me pouring some water from my cup into a tiny saucer, right. 😐

(And congrats to DJ, it’s going to be a big year for him!)

    1. FRILLY! What a treat 🙂 Thank you so much- I am so so so thankful the whole ear-scapade is over with! I do the SAME thing (with dunking my sushi in soy/wasabi)— I don’t think I’d be able to give it up, that takes some serious fortitude on your part. Haha. I do try to use low-sodium when I can though because I feel ya on being SO thirsty for the rest of the night. Hmmmm maybe I should give it a try sometime, or just use a TINY bit. This is definitely a big year for DJ too 🙂 You are just the best- thanks for stopping in! How are you?!
